Stephen Bate

Stephen is a barrister, Chartered Arbitrator, FCI Arb and he sits on the Licensing Committee of the British Horseracing Authority. He has been an accredited mediator since October 2002 and is a member of CEDR's Select and Direct mediation panels.

Stephen's mediation practice covers a wide area, reflecting his common law/chancery background in practice as a barrister, together with a specialisation in media and entertainment work. That practice includes contract, real property and intellectual property disputes, with claims of up to £30M. In his experience of over 20 years as a practising barrister, Stephen has a broad experience, including sale of goods disputes, supply of services, building contracts, computer contracts, franchise agreements, employment agreements, insurance claims, guarantee claims, printing contracts, advertising, landlord and tenant disputes (residential and commercial), boundary, right of way and other real property disputes, professional negligence (solicitors), partnerships, Inheritance Act claims, competition claims, music and other entertainment contracts, sponsorship agreements, telecommunications/broadcasting contracts, defamation and privacy.

Described as 'measured, sensible and helpful', he believes in being fully prepared and in encouraging the parties to examine their strengths and weaknesses.

Stephen is married with 3 daughters. His interests include golf, cricket and fly-fishing. He is also a member of the Royal Geographical Society.
