Gordon Bishop

Gordon Bishop MA Cantab is a barrister who practises from chambers at 5 Raymond Buildings, Gray’s Inn. He has been a member of those chambers for over 30 years, having been called to the Bar in 1968. He is also a CEDR accredited mediator and undertakes mediation in a broad range of civil disputes.

In his first 15 years of his practice he advised and represented clients in cases concerned with many different areas of law including commercial contracts, negligence, landlord and tenant and family law and he built up a considerable expertise in those fields which he continues to put to use.

In recent years he has specialised mainly in media related work, in particular defamation, breach of confidence, intellectual property and internet-related disputes, and has appeared in many high-profile cases acting both for and against many famous and infamous claimants. However, he has also continued to advise and represent clients in general commercial and common law cases, including banking disputes and claims for professional and medical negligence. He retains an interest and has expertise in a wide field of law.

Since first introduced to mediation through LDRS a few years ago, he has become a confirmed believer in the great advantages that alternative dispute resolution generally and mediation in particular have to those who find themselves involved in litigation. He encourages the use of mediation and other forms of ADR wherever possible, to save parties money, time and unnecessary stress. He has acted as a mediator or assistant mediator in a wide range of disputes including Inheritance Act claims, claims for professional negligence, infringement of patents, breach of agency agreements, payment of architects’ fees and other contractual disputes.
